You can love this part of your life and still have a really hard time.
Pregnancy and motherhood can bring joy, anxiety, grief, exhaustion and an enormous shift in who you are, sometimes all before breakfast.
Maybe you're constantly worried something will go wrong. Maybe you don't feel like yourself anymore. Or maybe everyone keeps telling you to “enjoy this time” or "they grow up so fast" while you're quietly wondering why it feels so hard and waiting for this phase to end.
Studio Wolff offers specialized therapy for women during pregnancy, postpartum and the transition into motherhood.
You may have expected sleepless nights and the never-ending laundry.
You probably didn't expect your brain to suddenly become a 24-hour risk-assessment department.
You might be:
Having a hard time doesn't mean you're doing motherhood wrong.
It means something deserves your attention.
Perinatal mental health struggles can show up in many different ways.
For some women, it's persistent sadness or feeling disconnected. For others, it's racing thoughts, irritability, intrusive thoughts, constant checking, difficulty sleeping or an overwhelming feeling that something bad is going to happen.
And sometimes there isn't one obvious symptom.
You simply know: I don't feel like myself.
Therapy gives us somewhere to start making sense of what's happening without requiring you to have the perfect words for it first.

I'm Renelle Wolff, LCSW, PMH-C, a therapist with specialized experience in perinatal and women's mental health. I’ve worked in a variety of settings with women and families including the NICU at a children's hospital, as a director at a foster care agency and various roles in private practice.
My Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C) through Postpartum Support International reflects advanced training in mental health during pregnancy and postpartum. I also hold your decision to become a parent when you choose. While I frequently work with mothers, I also support women as they consider whether, when, or how they want to become parents. This includes providing compassionate, nonjudgmental support around pregnancy decisions, including abortion.
But expertise doesn't mean therapy needs to feel clinical.
Our sessions are warm, collaborative and practical. There's room to talk about anxiety and intrusive thoughts, but also your marriage, identity, work, sex, resentment, sleep, family expectations and the thousand other things that don't fit neatly into a diagnostic checklist.
Intrusive thoughts can be really frightening, and hard to express.
You might experience an unwanted image or thought and immediately wonder:
Why did I think that?
What does that say about me?
What if having the thought means I could actually do it?
Many women keep these experiences secret because they're terrified of being judged or misunderstood.
Therapy can provide a safe place to talk openly about these thoughts, understand what they mean and, importantly, what they don't mean.
You don't need to edit your thoughts before bringing them into the room.
Pregnancy isn't peaceful for everyone.
Previous loss, infertility, complicated pregnancies, medical uncertainty or simply the enormous realization that your life is changing can make pregnancy and preparing for parenting feel much more anxious than expected.
Therapy during and before pregnancy can give you somewhere to work through those fears while preparing emotionally for the transition ahead.
Everyone expects new parents to be tired.
But there's a difference between being awake because your baby needs you and being unable to sleep when you actually have the opportunity.
You may finally get into bed and find yourself monitoring the baby, anticipating the next wake-up or feeling too wired to sleep.
Because I also specialize in insomnia and CBT-I, we can look carefully at the relationship between postpartum anxiety and sleep and determine the most appropriate treatment approach.

You don't need to wait until symptoms become severe. When therapy starts before becoming a parent it gives us time and space to build a therapeutic relationship, but that also doesn't mean we can't start once you have become a parent. Therapy can begin before, during pregnancy, shortly after birth or later in the postpartum period. Postpartum is forever.
PMH-C stands for Perinatal Mental Health Certification. It is a professional certification focused specifically on mental health during pregnancy and postpartum. The verification is supported by Postpartum Support International
Absolutely, intrusive thoughts are something we can discuss openly and without judgment in therapy.
Sleep and anxiety often overlap during the postpartum period. Because I also have specialized CBT-I training, we can evaluate what's contributing to your sleep difficulty and determine an appropriate approach.
